What is Tree City USA?

There are thousands of Tree City USA communities across the United States. They are large cities like Denver, Colorado and Portland, Oregon. They are tiny towns like Altamont, Illinois and Chesterfield, New Jersey.

These are communities that have made the commitment to invest in their trees. They are fulfilling the four standards set forth by the Tree City USA program and are reaping the benefits. The City of Grand Prairie has had the Tree City USA designation for 24 years!!! (Click here to see all Texas Tree Cities

The Benefits of Being a Tree City USA

Every community, regardless of size, benefits in different ways from being a Tree City USA . Reports of these benefits have reached The National Arbor Day Foundation through the years and are summarized below in six general categories: Framework for Action, Education, Public Image, Citizen Pride, Financial Assistance, and Publicity. The Four Standards of a Tree City USA

To qualify for Tree City USA, a town or city must meet four standards established by The National Arbor Day Foundation and the National Association of State Foresters. These standards were established to ensure that every qualifying community would have a viable tree Management plan and program. It is important to note that they were also designed so that no community would be excluded because of size.
