The Link Park is a proposed linear park that will connect Mike Lewis Park to C.P. Waggoner Park with paved trails, boardwalks, and a 270 foot long bridge spanning Johnson Creek. The Texas Department of Transportation is removing 10.3 acres of parkland from Waggoner Park for the construction of Highway 161, so in return, they have purchased 75 acres of land for the Link Park and will be funding the project. The project was bid for construction on March 8, 2005.


The linear park will include:

  • Nearly 2 miles of 8’ wide trail
  • Over 3 miles of 14’ wide trail
  • 780’ elevated boardwalk
  • River overlook
  • Rennovation of equestrian area in Mike Lewis Park
  • Park Restroom
  • 270’ long pedestrian bridge
  • Pedestrian trail lighting
  • Four 30’ X 30’ Pavilions
  • Five 10’ X 12’ Shade Structures
  • 7.9 Acres of Wildflowers
  • 3,593 - 1 gallon plants
  • 879 - 15 gallon trees
  • 457 - 30 gallon trees

The project was designed in conjunction with HNTB, City of Grand Prairie, and TxDOT.
